Community Feedback and Input

The aim of this survey is to assess the impact of Optimism on the SEED Latam community, gather opinions and feedback from individuals who have participated in SEED Latam initiatives related to the Optimism ecosystem, especially in governance calls.

Our intention, in this initial survey, is to gain a deeper understanding of the influence of Optimism within the SEED Latam community, identify contributions that members consider valuable from the work and impact of SEED Latam's initiatives on the community. Additionally, we are interested in discovering potential areas for improvement. This feedback will be essential in guiding our iteration process and continuing to provide significant value to the community.

Results:

This survey is directed towards those who have participated in at least one of the Optimism governance calls.

Based on the results of the survey conducted with 32 individuals, we can conclude that a significant percentage of respondents who have attended at least one of SEED Latam's governance calls show a commitment to the organization. Specifically, 44% of those who have been part of the community for over 3 years and 19% of those with more than two years of participation. These percentages represent approximately 63% of the total respondents, indicating a considerable degree of commitment within the community.

Responses regarding the reasons for participating in Optimism governance calls through SEED Latam vary, with the majority having an informational purpose. It's acknowledged that many people lack the time to track and examine all conversations on the forum, and this is where SEED Latam plays a crucial role as an information mediator. Delegation processes and simplifies this information, making it more accessible for the community to follow ongoing events. In addition to creating a space to share and debate ideas, actively engaging the community in developing events.

Continuing with the responses, it's noteworthy that 66% of individuals believe that Optimism's governance will have a positive impact on the protocol's future. When asked, "Do you feel represented in the DAO of Optimism?" 56% identify with it, while 22% do so "occasionally," and 19% are unsure of their relationship.

In summary, the expanded responses indicate:

  • A sense of representation within the DAO.

  • Participants trust delegates like Joxes due to their alignment with their values.

  • The community is open to constructive criticism and values the opportunity to express their opinions, fostering critical thinking.

  • Challenges and areas for improvement are mentioned, such as the need for greater clarity on decentralization and the inclusion of more Brazilians in governance, showing a willingness to continue improving the process.

Within the comments of those who do not feel adequately represented, we find the following opinions:

  • "At the moment, we haven't seen any improvement or harm, knowing that we requested support to build within the OP network and were rejected because they are only providing funding to development tools and not to end-user applications."

  • "I feel like it has a long way to go, and aspects of decentralization haven't been entirely clear."

These comments highlight significant areas for improvement and underscore the importance of providing support to a variety of projects and improving communication on key issues, such as decentralization.

Another critical question to consider is, "Can you identify SEED Latam initiatives related to governance that have provided you with the most value? What knowledge have you gained through your involvement in the delegation of Optimism?" It's important to note that delegation is approached from a community perspective, and we consider the educational component essential to encourage greater participation in this process.

From the responses provided, the following positive contributions of SEED Latam initiatives related to governance can be highlighted:

  • Broad knowledge gained: Numerous participants mentioned that SEED Latam provided them with a source of knowledge. "Starting with no previous knowledge of governance, SEED Latam added a significant amount of knowledge. The initiative itself is a gateway to learning about governance in Spanish, which is the most valuable aspect for me."

  • Participants have gained information on various aspects, from how delegation and proposal voting work to broader topics such as web3 politics and protocol debates. "From Governance calls, I've learned how delegation of tokens works, how proposals are evaluated, how the DAO operates, what the role of a delegator is. Also, it's worth noting that I'm more familiar with Arbitrum than Optimism."

  • Educational and participatory community: Participants appreciated SEED Latam's calls and events as educational opportunities and a chance to interact with the community. "The Governance Day. I met many good people involved in governance of different projects. I think this is very enriching to expand our knowledge and learn from other ecosystem actors. Delegation also helps me understand more about Optimism's governance."

Governance Day was the first governance event in Latin America and connected many ecosystem participants. Just like the "Governance Day," "Aula Abierta" and governance calls were also highlighted for their value in the learning process and understanding protocol governance. "I believe governance calls are the best initiative because, on one hand, they provide informative space for those who want to participate, but they also allow them to interact with delegates and bring perspective when making decisions about proposals' votes."

  • Positive Impact on the Latin American Region: A significant milestone in the delegation's journey was the ability to positively influence a vote, supporting a local project that had been working for an extended period without access to funding. This enabled the project to obtain the necessary resources for its development. "Getting Linda Xie to vote in favor of Mean Finance, a product that was just starting and needed incentives to take off – SEED badgeholders (CryptoChica and Joxes) added a lot of value to the LATAM ecosystem."

Recognition of delegates' work and SEED Latam's proposal: "Having witnessed how they work on improving frameworks and how they handle common governance dilemmas (like analyzing a grant, identifying conflicts of interest and reporting, how to engage the community and give them a voice)."

Among other educational initiatives, it appears that community calls have had a positive impact on the community's understanding of governance and the Optimism vision.

On a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 means "not helpful" and 5 indicates "very helpful," the results are as follows:

37.5% indicated that these calls have been "very helpful." 43.8% gave a score of 4, suggesting they have been quite useful. The remaining participants assigned decreasing scores, which can be interpreted as lower perceived utility but still positive overall.

When asked, "Do you believe the SEED Latam community has influenced your experience in Web3 or the community to which you belong?" The provided responses highlight the positive impact of SEED Latam in various aspects, both in terms of education and contributing to the development of the ecosystem in Latin America.

One participant stated, "Yes, it was useful in various aspects, mainly emphasizing the educational and informational aspects in my Web3 career." This and other responses emphasize the educational aspect.

Another participant expressed, "Yes, without a doubt. It has a significant impact on the entire Latam ecosystem. Beyond Seed as an organization, many of its members make a great effort to contribute to ecosystem development and have helped me and Solow several times." The Solow ecosystem, focused on onboarding to Web3, has started generating content related to Optimism, contributing to the expansion of the optimistic vision.

A third participant highlighted, "Without a doubt, for me, SEED Latam was essential for governance in LATAM to be seen as a discipline to be studied, it contributes to elevating the discourse on governance proposals and creates a 'corpus' of material like posts, calls, so that more people can research it."

Suggestions

To conclude this analysis, the final question allowed participants to share valuable improvement suggestions. SEED Latam is committed to considering these suggestions and evaluating how they can be implemented to further enrich the community's experience. Here are some key recommendations:

To sum up, the results of this survey reveal a wide range of perceptions and opinions about SEED Latam initiatives related to the Optimism ecosystem. Several key points stand out, such as commitment, alignment with values, appreciation for educational efforts and accessible information, as well as an interest in participatory proposals.

Furthermore, valuable suggestions for improvement have been provided, including:

  • Tutorials for Beginners: "The implementation of tutorials with information for those who are just starting. '"Aula Abierta" is a great section for this type of action."

  • Onboarding Strategies: "Actions like the current ones but outside the ecosystem, for example, the 'Codigo Optimista' initiative is very good. It would be interesting to take it to universities!"

  • Expansion to Different Platforms: "One thing I would really like to see in SEED Latam is a governance newsletter, almost like a 'DAO Times.' I think it would be a valuable source for people who can't follow the calls, spaces, or live events."

  • Other suggestions:

    • "More training in market cycles"

    • "Initiatives focused on developers and builders"

    • "Shorter calls"

    • "Onboarding more people with a less technical, simple, and friendly language so that more people in LATAM enter Web3(…)"

Análisis y conclusión:

In this initial feedback stage, we could conclude that Optimism may have had an impact on the transformation and evolution of SEED Latam, potentially influencing our organizational structure, the educational offerings we provide, and the surrounding community.

We have shifted a part of our educational offerings toward practical and theoretical governance topics and implemented decision-making methods valued by the community. Additionally, we have had to learn to work with frameworks due to the significant community growth, affecting roles such as that of delegates and the synergy within the SEED Latam team. Furthermore, the impact of the Optimism ecosystem has extended beyond SEED Latam, influencing projects and improvements in the Latin American region in line with our mission to make a positive impact.

However, we are considering various areas that require improvement. One of these is the optimization of our internal processes and voting methods, which provides ample room for iteration. We also need to professionalize our educational efforts by encompassing different levels, refining sections, migrating to other platforms, and increasing reach and visibility. Despite the considerable resources and efforts invested in outreach, we are seeking further community growth. Additionally, we are exploring the possibility of dedicating more time and support to projects emerging within the SEED Latam community.

In conclusion, with this feedback, we can emphasize how Optimism has had a significant impact on SEED Latam, contributing to its growth, development, and evolution. It also highlights crucial aspects such as commitment, alignment with values, appreciation of educational initiatives, the importance of accessible information, as well as an interest in active participation and collective voting procedures.

These changes extend to the Latin American ecosystem like a network that spreads across communities, individuals, and projects in Latin America, encouraging them to build, create content, and spread the optimistic vision. This has a positive impact on the Optimism ecosystem and strengthens its presence in the region.

SEED Latam will continue to consider these results for improvement and to provide added value to the community. We appreciate all participants for sharing their opinions and suggestions, and we encourage those who have not yet completed the survey to do so to contribute to our ongoing improvements.
