As stewards of Cameron’s Pocket swimming hole we are acting as custodians of the water, its surrounding environment, and a certified organic food forest. Proper Good Vibes is committed to preserving this land’s environmental integrity while providing safe access to the community. Visitor numbers at times exceed 100 people per day, all traveling on the council gazetted road through the property. This high traffic volume prompts us to carefully assess any impact on water quality, local flora and fauna, and visitor safety.

As custodians, we have a responsibility to protect and preserve this space, which includes a certified organic food forest that serves as a source of nourishment, education, and community connection. Recently, we took an important step in this journey by requesting a risk assessment from Mackay Regional Council regarding a gazetted road that crosses our land, ensuring it aligns with our custodial duties.

Proper Good Vibes Pty Ltd is a First Nations owned company that have acted on it’s own omission to attempt to protect and make safe a public area that is accessed via a gazetted road through our property that we are leasing whilst we are in the process of finalising the acquisition. We now find it necessary to make a statement that Yuwi Aboriginal Corporation were not involved in any way in the decision making process nor have they endorsed our actions to make safe the area known as Cameron’s Pocket Swimming Hole. We regret that this situation has escalated to this point prior to having the opportunity to sit together and discuss an appropriate action plan for the safety of the public and the environment.

Due to repeated incidents of vandalism, pollution, and littering, we are requesting temporary closure of access to the popular natural swimming hole in Cameron’s Pocket adjacent to a council-controlled gazetted road boundaried by national park. Unfortunately, this road is currently unsafe for vehicular access. We have offered Mackay Regional Council a range of solutions to restore safe, respectful public access to this natural ecosystem and swimming area. Our proposal includes constructing essential amenities—such as toilets, waste removal services, a public car park, and a walking track—that will provide a cost free sustainable way for people to enjoy this unique environment without harming it.
