The case for backing up civilization on Mars as an AI and nuclear deterrent strategy.

We recently wrote about the anatomy of a martian rocket fuel depot based on current best principles and research. Developing nuclear powered in-situ resource manufacturing will have profound implications for earth, none the least strategic. It is now possible to manufacture aviation fuel from seawater and a nuclear reactor alone.

We wanted to write about the most compelling hardware projects possible today and explore their implications for life here on Earth, and on other planets. In particular how new energy systems like nuclear thermal process heat will be used to take civilization into a new age.

After reading Robert Zubrin’s The New World on Mars, I found several aspects of the book compelling: Energy infrastructure and the architecture of a Martian city.
