Love: Learnings From a Monastery

February 14
Below is a journal entry. I wrote it on my way back from the monastery. On the train from Burlington, VT, to New York City. I had to edit the language and grammar as when I was writing it, I was in such a deep emotional state that often, the sentences would make little sense to anyone else. Though the things I tried to communicate in both cases are the same. I left in some of the rambling sentence structures to preserve the authenticity of my initial emotional reaction.

The Future of DeFi is Not Consumer Lending

Of all the institutions that we see decaying today, our financial institutions are not one of them. In fact, the most common critique of the American economy is that we are over-financialized, not under. One can critique our government’s irresponsible fiscal and monetary policy as an area that needs reform, but that’s why Bitcoin exists. Not DeFi.

$PUNIA - Leveraging Social Networks at the Margin

In my previous article describing the experiment I wanted to run with $PUNIA, my personal token, I talked about how the biospheric relationships that traditionally existed in communities for most of human history are all but lost in the hyper-scaled networks of megacities and social media. And the desire for economics to bring that reciprocity back.

Anime: The Medium of The Next Generation

Anybody that knows me knows that I am deeply influenced by anime. I often cite my ideal leadership style as the Strawhat Pirates \[which can be understood best through this clip here] and often feel like my individualistic style is molded significantly by the archetypical shonen protagonist.

Web3 Strategy vs. Web2 — Product

There are two main ways in which I see Web3 strategy differing from Web2:

Low Self-Esteem

Sometimes it is challenging seeing everyone you look up to seem to have this unshakeable faith and conviction in themselves. Kanye. Steve Jobs. Elon. A$AP Rocky. And when you feel like you don’t have that, you wonder if you can actually become anything like the people you look up to.

Future of Housing, Future of Living

It’s often hard to think about the future of housing without thinking about the future of how people want to live. Oftentimes at Holon, and elsewhere, we get lost in the political and technical mechanisms made to describe housing. YIMBY. We should build more housing. Make zoning easier. Build more public transit. Make mortgages more accessible. Shift to prefab/3D printed homes.

Myth of the Killer App and the Nature of Innovation

I find it strange whenever I see questions about the “realness” of Web3. The elusive search that builders, investors, optimists, and cynics all engage in to find the killer use-case of Web3. It’s a strange question to ask while Bitcoin sits at almost $1T in market cap.

Financial Systems Movement Towards Equity From Debt

Ecosystems in nature have little concept of debt. Nature has deep concepts of mutual dependency that create incredibly complex, beautifully emergent, and quite anti-fragile systems. Such a relationship much closer resembles equity relationships.
