Flaggers
December 21st, 2021

Ambassadors form a community inside Mundo Lingo, often taking their role to various cities as they travel around. For those Ambassadors who want to deepen their role, they can become Flaggers

🏠 The Role

  • Care for the flag stock and reception table

  • Welcome people with The Speech

  • Occasionally additional tasks like ambience checks, social media posts, associate visits.

✏️ Requirements

  • Ambassador Basics complete

  • Demonstrated proficiency in The Speech

  • 10+ events attended as Ambassador

  • Conversational English.

  • Arrive early

🎩 Benefits

  • Certificate of Contribution: Available after 3 months in the Ambassador Hall

  • Drink on us: One or two per event, invited by the Manager.

  • Guest of honor: When you travel, let us know in the Collaborators group which city you’re heading to. You’ll be received warmly and with a drink on us.

  • Get into Management: You already completed a chunk of the training, why not progress to Back-Up Manager, or even go full Manager?

💼 Table Plan

1️⃣ · Organise the table

Popular 5 to 8 most popular flags in front of the folder shared by both assistants. Can be reached quickly without flicking through a binder.

Frequent The local national flag + English (or whichever 2 languages are most frequent) to the left and right of the folder. One pile per assistant.

Rare Most people need 1 or 2 of the flags from the table + maybe 1 from the folder. This leaves the folder free for assistants to regularly access.

Table should be at least 100 x 50cm

2️⃣ · First Question

Is always “Hi, is it your first time?”

3️⃣ · Cards

Every participant who says its their first time gets a card.

4️⃣ · Flag Care

Only pass the flag sheets in the folder by holding a bunch of them together with the palm of your hand on either side. During quiet moments re-organise the table.

5️⃣ · The Speech

Extras can be added when needed but do not skip steps.

6️⃣ · Too Many Chefs

Do not interrupt teammates while they’re giving the Speech, they’ll resent you for it 🔪Participant(s) talk to one Ambassador at a time. Stick to your participant (or group of).

6️⃣3️⃣ · National Flag

All participants wear the national flag, it helps them integrate, and helps keep the attendance tally (do not count guests with a ticker!).

  • Ask the Ambassador "Where are the hot girls?"

  • Talk on your phone

  • Nervous Chatter Box · Ask the Flagger about themselves, keep talking ALAP.

Flags Etiquette

Once once person does it, often others copy
Once once person does it, often others copy

Occasionally participants put the flags on their arms. Once one person does it, it usually trends and spreads. They will say “It’s because they don’t stick to the material" but often the material on their arm is the same as on their chest (as seen above). When you see flags on arms, urge them to reconsider as a courtesy to others, because👇

  1. It helps other participants see their flags

  2. It helps photographers

  3. It helps our host bar

💦 Drinks on the Reception table.

That one time you let someone put a drink on the reception table
That one time you let someone put a drink on the reception table

Not today, maybe not in 100 events, but one day that drink someone rested on the table for ‘just a moment’, will be knocked over - not even by the same person who put it there – destroying your flags and throwing you into a crisis (and emergency flag order).

Say: “Excuse me, would you mind resting that drink on a different table”.

House Rules!

  • No sitting at the Reception table.

  • Reception table is a smoke-free area.

  • No drinks on the Reception table.

  • Don’t give flags to participants who are ‘too busy’ to listen to you. It’s 1 minute. You deserve their respect and attention.

  • Don’t give flags to participants talking on the phone. Say “It’s okay, I’ll wait until you’re finished” repeatedly until they give you their undivided attention.

  • Problems? Be firm, polite, and inform the Mundo Lingo Manager who will raise it with the bars management or security team. Never reprimand someone yourself.

  • Ambassadors can chat but not hanging around the table for more than 15 minutes

  • Every participant takes the national flag.
